YMAA Shaolin Qin Na - Level 1
Qin Na (also transcribed ch'in na) translates as “seize control” and is one of four categories of techniques included in any traditional Chinese martial art. The others are kicking, punching, and wrestling. Qin Na techniques fall into several categories, including joint locks. This will be the focus of these workshops.
These techniques adapt well into any martial art style and can be useful for self-defense and law enforcement.

About Milan: Milan Vigil has had the good fortune to learn from a number of excellent martial arts instructors. Locally, he trained in Judo under Sensei Harry Dach for a number of years. Traveling outside of the Mid-South, he began learning Wing Chun from Sifu Francis Fong in 1988. His studies with Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming, including Taijiquan, Qin Na and Qigong, started in 1989. And his training in Muay Thai Kickboxing with Ajarn Surachai Sirisute and Filipino (and other) Martial Arts with Guro Dan Inosanto began in earnest in 1990.
Milan is the representative in Memphis for Yang’s Martial Arts Association (), through which he has taught both domestically and internationally. He is a full instructor in the Wing Chun Association of the USA and associate instructor in the Thai Boxing Association. Milan was awarded a gold medal for his performance of the traditional Yang style barehand solo taijiquan sequence at the 2008 World Cup T'ai Chi Ch'uan Championship held in Taipei, Taiwan, and was a Practitioner Presenter for the International T'ai Chi Ch'uan Symposium at Vanderbilt University in July 2009. Most recently, he appears in the 2016 T'ai Chi Spirit calendar.
While teaching English in China in 2000, Milan took several months of lessons to learn to play the erhu (). He has studied Mandarin Chinese in the USA, China and Taiwan, and is familiar with Chinese history and classical philosophy. In addition to teaching martial arts and Chinese language and culture, Milan has performed martial arts and Chinese music (songs and erhu) at numerous cultural events, including Chinese New Year celebrations, the Center for Southern Folklore's Memphis Music & Heritage Festival, and the Naval Support Activity Mid-South's celebrations of Asian and Pacific American Heritage Month, for which he was the guest speaker in 2015.
Milan teaches Taijiquan, Wing Chun and Muay Thai and is available for private sessions for individuals and groups. Be on the look out for his classes / workshops on the schedule under Events or Classes at Downtown Yoga Memphis!
